New Schiaparelli Exhibition Explores Intersection of Fashion and Art

A new exhibition dedicated to the works of designer Elsa Schiaparelli opens at the Museum of Fashion in Paris, aiming to explore the relationship between fashion and art. The exhibit, titled “Schiaparelli: Fashion is Art,” showcases designs from the 1920s through the 1950s.

Curator Jean-Paul Gaultier stated, “Schiaparelli revolutionized fashion by integrating artistic elements, breaking boundaries that defined the industry.” The exhibition features iconic pieces, including her famous surrealist designs and collaborations with artists like Salvador Dalí.

Visitors can expect to see garments that blend eccentricity with elegance, alongside paintings and sculptures that inspired their creation. The exhibition also includes multimedia installations that highlight Schiaparelli’s innovative techniques.

The show runs from October 15, 2023, to February 15, 2024, and aims to attract both fashion enthusiasts and art lovers. Special guided tours and workshops are planned throughout the exhibition period.

Elsa Schiaparelli, active in the early to mid-20th century, is celebrated for her avant-garde designs and contributions to the surrealist movement. She was a contemporary of Coco Chanel and is recognized for her bold use of color and unconventional materials.

The exhibition is part of a broader trend to celebrate historical fashion designers and their artistic influences, reflecting a growing interest in the cultural significance of fashion.

Tickets are available online, with a limited number of walk-in spaces each day.
