UNCG Men's Tennis Defeated by Richmond 5-2

The University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) men’s tennis team lost to the University of Richmond on Sunday, falling 5-2 in a match held at the Richmond Tennis Complex. This defeat marks the Spartans’ second consecutive loss this season.

Richmond secured the doubles point, winning two of the three matches before dominating in singles play. “We fought hard today, but Richmond played well,” said UNCG head coach Paul Thomson. “We need to regroup and focus on our next match.”

The Spartans’ only victories came from Matthew Tsolakidis and James Shortall, who each secured singles wins. Tsolakidis triumphed at No. 2 singles, while Shortall won at the No. 5 position.

The match is part of a challenging early-season schedule for UNCG, which has faced tough competition from various ranked programs. The team will look to improve as they prepare for their upcoming matches.

Founded in 1891, the University of Richmond has a rich athletic tradition, competing at the NCAA Division I level. The UNCG Spartans are members of the Southern Conference and have been working to build a competitive tennis program in recent years.
