Over 100 Arrested at Illegal Cockfighting Ring in Chaves County

More than 100 individuals were discovered at an illegal cockfighting operation in Chaves County, New Mexico, on Saturday, according to the county undersheriff. Law enforcement officials conducted a raid at the location, which they described as a significant violation of state animal cruelty laws.

“These types of activities are not only cruel but also illegal, and we will take action against those involved,” said Undersheriff Jason Pacheco. Officers seized multiple birds and arrested numerous participants during the operation.

The raid took place after an anonymous tip alerted authorities to the illegal activities. In addition to the arrests, investigators are expected to pursue charges against those found in attendance.

Cockfighting is banned in all 50 states, with severe penalties for participants and organizers. Animal rights advocates have condemned such events, arguing they promote violence and animal cruelty.

Officials are continuing to investigate the ring and seek further information from the public regarding other potential illegal activities in the area.
