Congress leader Sachin Pilot stated on Friday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has no presence in Kerala, emphasizing that the upcoming elections will be a contest between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF). His comments were made during a media interaction in Thiruvananthapuram, where he addressed the political landscape of the state.

Pilot asserted that the BJP is not a significant player in Kerala’s political arena, pointing out that the state has traditionally leaned towards leftist and centrist parties. “In Kerala, the battle is clearly between the LDF and UDF. The BJP’s efforts to establish a foothold here have been unsuccessful,” he remarked.

He also highlighted the necessity for the Congress to unify and strengthen its position ahead of the elections. Pilot’s statements come as the Congress Party aims to enhance its influence in a region where it has faced challenges in recent years.

The political dynamics in Kerala have long been dominated by the LDF, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and the UDF, primarily composed of the Indian National Congress and its allies. The state has seen fierce competition between these coalitions in previous elections, often resulting in close contests.

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, the LDF achieved a decisive victory, marking the second consecutive term for Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The BJP, however, secured only a small fraction of the votes, underscoring its struggles in the state.

With the next elections approaching, both the LDF and UDF are gearing up for what promises to be a highly competitive political battle, while the BJP looks to increase its visibility and relevance in Kerala.
