Waratahs CEO Jason McKellar has expressed support for a proposed revamp of the Super Rugby format to include a home-and-away schedule. The proposition comes as part of ongoing discussions among league officials about enhancing competition and fan engagement.

“A home-and-away format could bring a more exciting atmosphere to the games and strengthen rivalries,” McKellar stated during a media briefing on Wednesday. “We believe this change would benefit both teams and fans alike.”

The potential redesign of the league aims to address concerns regarding fan attendance and viewing figures, which have seen declines in recent years. Stakeholders are eager to revitalize interest in the tournament.

McKellar highlighted the importance of creating a more accessible experience for fans, suggesting that local matches could drive greater attendance and community involvement. “More games in our home ground will allow fans to connect more intimately with the teams they support,” he added.
