World Games 2029 Sports Programme Announced

The World Games has officially unveiled its sports programme for the 2029 event, scheduled to take place in Birmingham, Alabama. The announcement was made during a press conference held on Tuesday, showcasing a diverse range of sports that will be featured.

“We are excited to present a comprehensive and inclusive sports programme that reflects the spirit of The World Games,” said World Games CEO, Mike Decourcy. The event aims to bring together athletes from various disciplines to compete on an international stage.

The 2029 edition will include traditional sports such as karate and lacrosse, as well as newer additions like breakdancing and parkour. The inclusion of these sports is intended to appeal to a younger audience and promote the growth of emerging athletic disciplines.

The event, which is held every four years, serves as a platform for sports not included in the Olympic Games. The 2029 World Games is expected to draw thousands of athletes and spectators from around the globe, fostering international camaraderie.

Founded in 1981, The World Games aims to promote sports outside the Olympic movement, offering a unique opportunity for lesser-known sports to gain exposure. The 2025 edition will take place in Chengdu, China, leading up to the Birmingham games.
