Prince William Skips Ride with Family at Trooping the Colour

Prince William did not join his wife, Kate Middleton, and their children during the official ride at the Trooping the Colour ceremony on June 17, 2023, in London. The decision was made to allow the family to enjoy the royal event while William participated in official duties.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Kensington Palace explained that Prince William had to attend a prior engagement at the ceremony before joining his family later. “The Duke of Cambridge has a full schedule and needed to fulfill his responsibilities at Trooping the Colour,” the spokesperson said.

The Trooping the Colour event marks the official birthday of the British monarch and features a military parade, flyover, and royal family appearances. It is one of the most important annual events in the British royal calendar, attended by thousands in London and millions more via broadcast.

Prince William has previously participated in the ride alongside his family during past celebrations. This year, the family maintained a separate presence at the event, where they waved to the crowds from a carriage.

The Trooping the Colour tradition dates back to the 17th century, celebrating the monarch’s official birthday. It includes various regiments of the British Army, making it a significant display of British heritage and military pride.
