The inaugural FIDE World Blitz Solving Championship and International Team Tournament concluded on October 15, 2023, in Budapest, Hungary, recognizing top chess solvers from around the globe. The tournament featured both individual and team formats, showcasing rapid problem-solving skills in chess.

“Participants demonstrated exceptional talent and quick thinking, making this event a remarkable success,” said FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich. The event attracted over 100 competitors, representing numerous countries.

The individual championship saw Russia’s Sergey Shakhray take first place, while the team event was won by the Russian squad, composed of top-ranked players. Both champions displayed remarkable speed and accuracy in solving complex chess puzzles.

Competitors were required to complete a series of chess problems within a limited time, testing their analytical skills and decision-making abilities under pressure. The event provided an opportunity for players to engage with the chess community and gain international recognition.

The tournament was part of FIDE’s efforts to promote chess solving as a competitive discipline. Following its success, organizers plan to include the event in future chess calendars.

FIDE, the International Chess Federation, was established in 1924 and has been instrumental in developing chess competitions worldwide. The blitz solving format is a relatively new addition to the organization’s initiatives, aimed at popularizing various aspects of the chess discipline.
