Farmers and Cheese-Makers Conclude Unproductive Talks
Farmers and cheese-makers concluded negotiations on Friday without reaching any agreements, following discussions aimed at resolving ongoing disputes over pricing and production concerns. The talks took place in Athens, fueled by rising costs and market pressures impacting both sectors.
“There was a lack of compromise from both sides, which made it impossible to find common ground,” a spokesperson for the farmers stated. Negotiators had hoped to address issues related to milk prices and production quotas, but conflicting interests hindered progress.
The discussions were prompted by complaints from farmers about the increasing costs of feed and supplies, which they argue are not reflected in the prices they receive for milk. Cheese-makers, on the other hand, cite diminishing profit margins due to competition and market fluctuations.
This stalemate highlights the ongoing challenges facing Greece’s agricultural sector, which has been grappling with economic pressures exacerbated by inflation and changing consumer preferences. The failure to reach an agreement may lead to further tensions as both parties continue to navigate a complex and evolving marketplace.
