U.S. Travel Association Emphasizes Travel's Economic Impact

The U.S. Travel Association released a report on Tuesday emphasizing the significant role domestic and international travel play in the U.S. economy. The findings illustrate how travel-related expenditures contribute to job creation and economic growth across the nation.

“Travel generates $2.6 trillion in economic output and supports over 15 million American jobs,” said U.S. Travel Association President Roger Dow. He emphasized the importance of tourism in revitalizing local economies, especially in areas heavily reliant on visitors.

The report highlights that travel spending has rebounded significantly post-pandemic, with a notable increase in both leisure and business travel. It also points to the travel industry’s contribution to state and local tax revenues.

According to the data, international visitors spent approximately $169 billion in 2022, a 67% increase from the previous year. Domestic travelers also accounted for a large portion of travel spending, with millions traveling for leisure and business purposes.

The U.S. Travel Association continues to advocate for policies that support travel infrastructure and promote tourism, suggesting that further investment could enhance economic recovery efforts.

Established in 1941, the U.S. Travel Association aims to promote and protect the travel industry. The organization conducts regular assessments of travel’s economic impact and advocates for favorable policies that enhance the travel experience in the United States.
