Luis Enrique has made history as the first coach to lead Spain to a World Cup quarterfinals appearance since 2010, achieving this milestone during the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Spanish team secured their spot after a decisive victory against Portugal in the Round of 16 on October 30, 2022, in Doha.

“We showed our quality and determination,” Enrique said after the match. “This is a proud moment for Spanish football.”

The victory came after Spain finished the group stages with a solid performance, showcasing a mix of experienced players and emerging talents. The team will now face their next opponent in the quarterfinals, aiming to add a second World Cup title to their history.

Luis Enrique, who has managed the national team since 2018, has been pivotal in revitalizing Spain’s footballing style. His leadership has been marked by a commitment to attacking football and youth development.

Spain last won the World Cup in 2010 and has since struggled to reclaim their place among the elite teams in international football. The upcoming quarterfinals will be crucial for Enrique’s legacy as coach.
