A Fort Myers man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence after a crash that injured three people. The incident occurred late Saturday night on Palm Beach Boulevard in Fort Myers. Authorities responded to the scene after reports of a collision involving multiple vehicles.

The driver, identified as 34-year-old Michael Smith, was found to be operating his vehicle while impaired, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. “The reckless actions of the suspect put many lives at risk,” a spokesperson said.

Emergency responders transported the three injured individuals to a local hospital. Their injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and they are expected to recover.

Smith was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including DUI and causing bodily harm. He remains in custody at the Lee County jail.

DUI incidents have been a growing concern in Southwest Florida, prompting law enforcement to implement increased patrols and checkpoints, especially during peak holiday seasons.
