The Museum of Fashion (MoMu) in Antwerp is hosting an exhibition titled “Antwerp Six,” marking 40 years since the influential group of fashion designers first emerged. Opening on October 1, 2023, the exhibition highlights the impact of the Antwerp Six on the global fashion scene.

Curated by MoMu, the exhibition features a wide range of garments, sketches, and multimedia installations that showcase the designers’ bold and innovative approaches to fashion. “This exhibition is a tribute to the lasting legacy of the Antwerp Six and their role in shaping contemporary design,” said MoMu director Joost Devries.

The Antwerp Six includes renowned designers such as Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, and Walter Van Beirendonck. They gained international fame in the 1980s for their avant-garde styles that challenged traditional fashion norms.

In addition to the clothing displays, the exhibition includes interviews and documentaries that provide insight into the designers’ creative processes and individual philosophies. The museum aims to engage visitors not only with the aesthetic aspects but also with the cultural significance of their work.

The Antwerp Six have been credited with changing perceptions around Belgian fashion and establishing Antwerp as a key fashion capital. Their collective and individual works continue to influence new generations of designers.
